Past
September 27-29, 2024: DanceHack took place at Mills College at Northeastern University, Oakland CA. Check out the full schedule here.
DanceHack is an annual gathering of creatives, technologists, and dancers to explore the dynamic interplay of dance and technology.
This year’s theme, A Body of Work, invites us to reconnect with the human body—its innate technology, physicality, and creativity—in the face of rapid technological advancements.
As we delve into advanced tools like motion capture, physiological data sensors, robotics, and AI, we encourage participants to engage with these innovations in ways that enhance our connection to movement.
What does it mean to be a dancing body in a world in a world of constant change? How can we cultivate practices that fuse dance and technology, empowering rather than overwhelming? In an era of constant innovation, can we move forward with a focus on harmony?
Join us for 3 days of hands-on workshops, serendipitous connections and collaborations — let's hack, move, play, and uncover new ways in which dance and technology converge!

Kinetech Arts, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, brings together dancers, scientists, and digital artists to explore the dynamic intersection of movement, science, and technology. Our artistic journey delves deep into the ever-changing relationship between humans and technology, contemplating its profound impact on the human-machine ecosystem.
Founded by scientist Weidong Yang and choreographer Daiane Lopes Da Silva, Kinetech Arts (KA) has evolved into a thriving community of interdisciplinary makers, capturing meaningful discoveries from unexpected sources. Over 10 full-length productions, both locally and abroad, have attracted diverse artists and collaborators, all eager to challenge their creative process through open performance and experimentation.
Kinetech Arts has been supported by various foundations such as Zellerbach Family Foundation, Phyllis C. Wattis Foundation, Rainin Foundation, CA$H Grants and Creative Work Funds. Our major residencies, include Lucas Artists Residency Program, 836M, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, Headlands Center for the Arts, ODC Theater (currently Home Company), among others.
Since 2013, KA hosts weekly open labs, monthly Y-Exchange public talks and full length performances every year. We are grateful to having Mills College at Northeastern University as our partner in DanceHack this year again.
